If you have a home in Ohio that includes a basement, then you need to consider investing in basement waterproofing. This is something that will really protect you and your home. Basement water leaks happen all of the time. This is something that could really result in everything from wet basement mold to flooding. The cost to finish a basement is much lower than the cost to repair basement’s walls on a yearly basis or to replace invaluable items like photographs. The following are some reasons to invest in a Ohio basement waterproofing company.

Waterproofing or finishing your basement is a smart idea because it keeps your home safe. One leak could lead to more leaks and this in turn could cause some serious damage to the basement. This isn’t something to ignore. One leaky wall can really affect other areas of your home.

Another great reason to waterproof your home is that you can then turn the basement into more than a storage unit. This means that you can build a home fitness center in this space or even a home theater or playroom. Ohio basement waterproofing gives you more options for how to use your home. This also will increase your home’s value.

If you live in a home with an unfinished basement, the idea of finishing it might be a lot like doing your taxes early—it would be a great idea, but it probably won’t happen. Maybe you should give it another thought, though. Refinishing your basement is too big a job for most people to do themselves, but the cost of having someone finish your basement for you might not be as much as you think. Here are three good reasons to do it.

First, a finished basement is the simplest way to have more space in your home. You probably can’t afford to build on another room. Here’s a quick and cheap way to get much more space.

Second, many unfinished basements are damp because they badly need waterproofing. Finishing your basement may actually contribute to the health of your entire house.

Finally, this simple investment can add significantly to your home’s value. In fact, the cost to finish a basement is often less than the value you gain in equity. If you plan to sell your house soon, refinishing the basement may be one of your easiest investments.

Find a good basement waterproofing contractor and make your basement a useful part of your house. There’s never a good reason to let that much space be wasted.

Do you worry every time it rains? A wet basement — anything from simple dampness to standing water—can cause expensive damage to your whole house. A basement waterproofing contractor is a trained professional who can diagnose and solve your problem.

Do you have bowed basement walls? Saturated soil puts extreme pressure on the foundation of your home, and can cause leaks and cracks. In the winter, saturated soil can cause frost damage. Damage to your home’s foundation can compromise the structure of your whole house, and possibly lead to expensive repairs. Even without severe damage, a wet basement reduces the value of your home significantly, and makes it more difficult to sell if you need to make a move.

Insects—even carpenter ants and termites—are attracted to wet basements; they are almost impossible to eradicate as long as the moisture problem continues. Add to this the problem of wet basement mold and mildew, and you have real trouble! Mold can be a serious health hazard and the musty odor of a wet basement tends to affect the entire home. There is a financial cost here, too, as carpets and furniture that mildew may need replacement.

To avoid any of these serious problems and more, pick up the phone and call an Ohio basement waterproofing company without delay.

With the increase in flu’s and flu like symptoms, most homeowners who are at a loss to explain their illness might be surprised to know that a leak in basement from sewage backing up from the street sewer’s or a foundation leak could be bringing in unpleasant bacteria that needs to be professionally handled.

No homeowner should put up with a wet basement mold and getting basement waterproofing companies to give him a price might be the least expensive way of lowering medical bills caused by illnesses from basement water leaks. The cost to finish a basement should include waterproofing. It is spending money foolishly to do basement remodeling in Ohio or anywhere without waterproofing basements.

Price is important but so is your health. And health costs can be even higher than waterproofing basement walls. The facts are that most basements that have wet basement mold or a leak are creating a health hazard for the occupants of the house and that can be expensive. A wise person would never buy a house before checking to see that the foundation is sound, and no house foundation is sound if the basement leaks. Also, if your home’s foundation has sprung a leak, putting off repairs could cause even greater damage to your health as well as to your home.

The bottom line is that if you have a dry basement then you are going to have a healthier home. Any kind of moisture that is able to leak or be exposed and reside inside of a basement increases the chances of wet basement mold. The accumulation of mold means the increased chance of breathing problems and sickness.

The most common cause of wet basement mold is a leak in the basement. A leak in the basement can be caused by leaking pipes or a slightly cracked open window. Basement water leaks are very common but can easily be remedied by waterproofing your basement. There are several ways of waterproofing a basement but sealing off the foundation is one of the more common. Any kind of waterproofing sealer can be used on exposed pipes and cracks that may be evident in the basement and the foundation walls. You can easily consult with a contractor and they can give you an estimate about waterproofing your basement.

Wet basement mold can accumulate fast and grow quick. In order to prevent this from happening, the best thing to do is waterproof your basement and get the advice of a knowledgeable basement waterproofing contractor.

During extended periods of rainfall or during the wet months, water can seep through the walls and the foundation of the home where the wall meets the floor.

Water in the basement can be a frustrating problem which not only causes heartache to the homeowner but also weaken the foundation of your home. When the foundation of a home is compromised, a home may shift in the future and cause extensive damage to other portions of the home. Moreover, accumulation of water in the basement can also lead to mold and mildew buildup which consequentially adds health hazards in conjunction with foundation problems as well. Nonetheless, a leaky or wet basement can be remedied with the help of a qualified basement waterproofing company or contractor.

First, configuring the needs of your basement in terms of functionality should initially be examined. For instance, if you would like to utilize your basement further for a home addition instead of solely housing your appliances, this should be taken into consideration first. Consequentially, the homeowner should possibly consider a complete basement renovation which will include basement waterproofing. However, if your basement will not serve as a home addition, will not house anything more than appliances or serve as storage, then solely choosing a basement waterproofing company or contractor will be sufficient. Nevertheless, the contractor or company will not only locate the source of the basement water leaks, but will repair and guarantee that the leaking will not return in all the examined areas of the basement. This will ensure that in the event of the sale of the home or future renovations, the home will be adequate for these functions. Please keep in mind that while some DIY products ensure a remedy for wet basements and leaking in foundations, these products do not provide the same guarantee as a qualified waterproofing contractor or company and will not ensure the prevention of leaks in the future. Waterproofing companies and contractors are licenses and bonded which will protect themselves and your home in the event of any accidents. Basement waterproofing companies and contractors provide the added protection, guarantee, and professionalism that cannot be offered by any other basement waterproofing alternative.

A wet basement is a major headache for homeowners and it doesn’t seem like the problems resulting from basement waters leaks are ever going to end. Heavy rains, interior moisture and cracks in the wall bring the problems of a wet basement mold and smells to a head.

The best way to solve your wet basement problems is to use the services of a professional basement waterproofing contractor. Most wet basement problems require more than do-it-yourself solutions. Bowed basement walls, leaks and condensation require going to the root of the problem.

Most wet basement problems are the result of Ohio’s unpredictable weather. The freezing and thawing ground moves and puts stress on basement walls. Severe problems might require the installation of a drainage system that collects water around the edges of the basement and then runs it into a tile. Walls and foundations can usually be easily repaired but extensive damage sometimes requires they be replaced. A basement waterproofing company will give you a written estimate for the repairs and get the job done as quickly as possible.

Once your basement is livable again it’s time to think about putting the space to use. Basement remodeling in Ohio is a great way to open up more living and storage space. Most basements can be turned into attractive family rooms, roomy sports centers or even dry storage areas when the right professional is on the job.

Basements can have a myriad number of problems but leaking is the most prevalent and bowed walls would be right up there on the list. To protect your most valuable asset get professional help! Call a contractor!

A leak in a basement can be caused by a number of issues such as having a negative grade toward your house where the dirt and grass slant down toward the foundation. In heavy rain the water will naturally seek the lowest point and will run in your basement if you have a negative grade. Clearly this is rather easy to correct by changing the grade next to your house so that you have a slight hill going up to your basement which is then seeded with grass.

A leak in a basement can also be traced to gutters that are not correctly attached, cleaned or positioned to force water away from the house. You should clean your gutters at least twice a year, once in the spring and then again in the fall. You want them to be free of debris so water will travel easily down to the downspouts and then channeled away from the house by at least several feet. Some gutters have screen covers on them to keep stuff out of the actual gutters and this is an option as well. However you have to be certain that the debris caught in the screen coverings is cleared away too as nothing makes for better potting soil for tree seeds. Before you know it you will have dozens of young saplings growing straight up from the screen material.

Leaks in a basement can wreck havoc on your basement from destroying drywall to carpeting, causing masonry material to deteriorate into sand that falls on the floor. Any time you have a leaky basement you should attend to it immediately in order to protect your most valuable asset, your home.

If you have bowed basement walls you have a major cause for concern. Bowed basement walls typically mean that water is pushing in from the outside of your home and that the pressure is tremendous enough to actually move the basement walls. This is a problem you should call a contractor or two about immediately; do some research and get on the ball on this one.

If you have ever seen homes affected by floods, flood water has such pressure against exterior walls that the pressure can actually push in the basement walls and cause them to collapse. Having such a repair done can be upwards of $12,000 to $15,000 when the whole wall has to be rebuilt.

When you have bowed basement walls, the walls appear to be moving and have not yet collapsed in, there are methods of putting up steel I-beams against the walls, holding them in against giant screw and plate systems. Typically in a basement where the walls have begun to bow, you want to get to this job right away to stop any movement of the walls that is currently happening. The contractors put these in at about 4′ to 6′ intervals so you may need half a dozen or more of them in your basement. The cost on these systems runs from a low of about $6000 on up depending on the severity of the bowing. These I-beams act as foundation reinforcement as well because after they are installed there should be no movement in the walls.

Basements are a serious issue and should be taken as such in your home. Call a good contractor for opinions on what you should do to correct any problems you may have in your basement. In the long-run the advice of a professional could save you thousands of dollars to say nothing of the worry and stress.
